Callatoota Estate comprises a vineyard of 7 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, 1 hectare of Cabernet Franc and 2 hectares of Shiraz, producing a harvest of about 120 tonnes of fruit in a normal year.
The vines grow vigorously on high wide trellises, the open canopy providing good exposure to the suns rays which ensures high quality fruit and minimizes mildew and other problems normally encountered in the Hunter valley.
The deep alluvial soil, the superior clones of Cabernet and Shiraz and the unusual trellising system are the reasons for this small vineyard consistently producing high quality fruit at the rate of about 12 tonnes to the hectare.
Callatoota Estate produces about 10% of the Cabernet Sauvignon fruit grown in the Hunter Valley.
